Today I responded to the MoJ consultation to changes to the Victims Code of Practice. Whilst welcoming the proposed changes to make the Code more accessible to victims there is more we can and should do.

I am calling for measures to be put in place to hold criminal justice agencies to account for their performance in complying with the Code, including a national compliance report prepared by the Victims’ Commissioner and laid in Parliament, key entitlements to eventually become statutory victim rights and direct access for victims to the Parliamentary Ombudsman in cases where they believe their entitlements under the Code have not been delivered.
