Dame Vera has sent a letter sent to Alex Chalk MP highlighting issues with proposed changes

The Victims’ Commissioner for England and Wales Dame Vera Baird QC has today written to Justice Minister Alex Chalk MP about the proposed wording in the revised Victims’ Code of Practice in relation to restorative justice.

She expresses concern that there appears to have been a conscious decision water down the language on access to restorative justice, giving greater discretion to criminal justice agencies to decide whether access will be offered and fears this may result in even fewer victims being made aware of restorative justice in the future.
