Crime affects children disproportionately – they are often the witness to domestic violence in the home and can all too easily fall foul of predators on the internet. I was therefore delighted to be invited by the charity Embrace to take part in a virtual conference – a series of webinars – that explores the key issues about crime and how it affects our children.
Children traumatised by crime can exhibit behaviours that many find difficult to understand. Self-harming is sometimes coping mechanism. Counselling is not always the answer. The webinar I participated in looked at how services are developing to help our young people use their experiences as a path to a brighter future.
