Victims’ Commissioner discusses the impact of crime of children

Published:

The Victims’ Commissioner joined Embrace as part of their webinar series on how crime affects children to look at how services are developing to help young victims.

Crime affects children disproportionately – they are often the witness to domestic violence in the home and can all too easily fall foul of predators on the internet. I was therefore delighted to be invited by the charity Embrace to take part in a virtual conference – a series of webinars – that explores the key issues about crime and how it affects our children.

Children traumatised by crime can exhibit behaviours that many find difficult to understand.  Self-harming is sometimes coping mechanism.  Counselling is not always the answer. The webinar I participated in looked at how services are developing to help our young people use their experiences as a path to a brighter future.
