Victim Survey 2022: Female victims’ experience

Published:

This bulletin presents further findings from the 2022 Victim Survey. This has been produced to coincide with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – read the Victims’ Commissioner’s blog for more information.

Launched in the summer of 2022, the Victims’ Commissioner’s 2022 Victim Survey sought to understand victims’ priorities and gain insights into their experiences of the criminal justice system over the past three years. Around 500 victims from across England and Wales completed the survey and this included 271 responses from individuals who had been a victim of crime or had reported a crime since January 2019 and self-identified their sex as female.

The findings highlight a justice system in need of reform, with victim confidence and satisfaction shown to be worryingly low and many victims expressed their disappointment with the criminal justice system. As these respondents are self-selecting, they cannot be viewed as representative of all female victims.
